For this webquest you will be placed into groups of 4 students to form a committee to make an informed decision on whether or not Jake should be allowed to go on his solo adventure. There are four parts that your committee needs to complete for this webquest:
Part 1: Preparation for the trip
Your committee’s tasks for part 1 is to research some aspects of preparation for a big sailing expedition. You must complete 2 of the 3 preparation activities and organise all the useful information in your committee journal. This will be used to assist your committee in later parts of the webquest. The areas you can cover are:- food/meal planning- knots- labeling a sailboat
Part 2: The Journey
Your committee is required to plot the trip of teenage sailors who have circumnavigated the world solo. You will gain an understanding of what it means to circumnavigate the world and who has attempted or is currently attempting this massive adventure.
Part 3: The Great Debate – Different Perspectives
Each member of your committee needs to research and provide insight into different perspectives for those who are closely related to the issue. You need to show an understanding of this person's point of view on the issue of whether or not Jake should be allowed to attempt his expedition.The committee will research and discuss overseas laws that have halted the attempts of other young sailors. You will also find out what people around you think of this issue, survey or interview people then collate your findings for your journal.
Part 4: Presentation of findings
Within your committee you must decide on Jake’s fate. After agreeing on an outcome your committee will be required to present your findings, your decisions and reasoning to the rest of the class. You will also be required to submit all your research in your journal to support your decision.
